Star Awards

The Malta Tourism Authority STAR Awards
 Star Awards Front Cover

The Special Thanks And Recognition (STAR) Awards are organised annually by the Malta Tourism Authority. The aim of these prestigious awards is to give public recognition to all those individuals who excel in the service and hospitality they offer our tourists.

Tourists wishing to nominate someone for a STAR Award may do so by filling out a STAR nomination form. These are available free of charge from all Tourist Information centres run by the MTA as well as from several hotels, tourist attractions, dive centres and transport operators among others. No postage is required.

Participating tourists enter a lottery draw to win a free holiday back to Malta, including return flights for two courtesy of Air Malta (excluding taxes) and one-week hotel accommodation for two on bed & breakfast basis.

Tourists may nominate anyone they feel gave outstanding service – hotel staff, tourist guides, people working in bars and restaurants, shop assistants, bus drivers, taxi drivers, boatmen, diving instructors and people working at heritage attractions are all examples of past winners. Winners are determined based on the number of tourist nominations received throughout the year.

In addition to the tourist-driven awards, the STAR Awards also include an industry-driven award – the Hotel Worker of the Year. The aim of this award is to recognise hotel workers considered to be exemplary employees by fellow workers as well as top management. The qualities assessed include efficiency, initiative, participation in voluntary activities, honesty, solidarity and last but not least, where applicable, service and hospitality.
