Most of the events that take place in Malta and Gozo throughout the year are annual occurrences. The village feasts, for example, take place once a year, more or less on the same weekend, every year. The same applies to many cultural festivals such as the Valletta Baroque Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Arts Festival, and the Fireworks Festival and international sporting events such as the Malta Marathon and The Middle Sea Race. Some events, however, are recurring, in the sense that they are held periodically, several times a year. These include the historical re-enactments ‘In Guardia’ and the Changing of the Guard ceremony in front of the Grandmasters Palace in Valletta.
